I don't think Alcatel will be able to deal with the Tier 3s.  Maybe the CenturyLinks/Frontiers/Fairpoints of the world.  They are simply not prepared for the huge differences that say going to East Otter Tail Telephone would mean for them.  Their OSS expectations alone will make the whole thing unusuable by an IOC.

11m IPTV subs within three years does not sound like a growth opportunity, given the broader market.  But the potential fast time-to-market and minimal professional services could result in rapid time-to-margin for ALU.  It's also good marketing: you can access all the great Mediaroom functionality for low cost... but if you actually want to deploy that functionality (like instant channel change, restart anytime), you'll need to buy more MSFT licenses $$ and install physical servers $$$ - changing the cost equation.

Maybe it's a squeeze play on the smaller systems vendors to try and consolidate some market share as ALU anticipates a dramatic drop in VZ FiOS GPON orders...

<div>For two companies that are running the AFC playbook (Calix and Occam) to beat ALU in the small carriers will be like Chuck Norris beating up on Erkel. &nbsp; The market is so entirely different that they are about to get there head handed to them if they try to go below the 1M line carrier level. &nbsp; They don't know what they don't know.</div>

Agree 100%.

ALU's only hope is to BUY their way in by taking out&nbsp; one of the 2 scrappier incumbents,

CALX (which is still bleeding RED ink profusely) or OCNW (who is not)....before ADTN does, that is.

IF/WHEN the event occurs, I'm confident it will be pretty much double what these 2 companies are trading at today, since they are both cleaning up in customer stimulus wins.

Gonna be an interesting quarter I think.
