re: 3Com to Buy Force10, Riverstone? Riverstoned can be bought for less than a buck a share. they are desperate to stay alive. On the other hand F10 is just beginning to become a viable technology company. Why would anyone in their right mind want to team up with 3com. The best thing 3com ever built was the Palm Pilot.

Actually they should have bought Extreme when they had the chance. Both companies have the same sales mentality-push everything through channels, pre announce products that are a year off and buy the business by having no margin sales.

3com PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM FOUNDRY NETWORKS

re: 3Com to Buy Force10, Riverstone? Iipoed, for once I agree with you: But Extreme's channels are fleeing them, Foundry and Cisco are killing them and they are slipping fast. Why would 3Com want to buy them just as their house of cards is crashing down?

I agree also, Stoned is dead. Good engineers are long gone, sales people all bailed and they haven't won any meaningful enterprise business without giving away product. But they'll take themselves private before selling for a buck a share. They have the cash to do it.

Foundry won't sell and 3Com can't afford them anyway.

A reminder: 3Com didn't even build the Palm. They bought it via the acquisition that killed the company: USRobotics (Commworks). Ironically they didn't even realize what they had. They were buying USR for the modems business for God's sake.

Hi kids, it's time for your Science Lesson:
What happens when a sinking company buys two more sinking companies? That's right kids, they sink faster!

re: 3Com to Buy Force10, Riverstone? Were'nt 3COM looking at Lantern as a possible target? That must've been cheap...

re: 3Com to Buy Force10, Riverstone? It is crazy that 3Com would repeat the same mistake as it made when it bought US Robotics. 3Com almost lost everything as a result of acqisition of US Robotics.

The company is hardly surviving. It has lost a lot of its product lines. Both Riverstone and
Force10 do not have good revenue stream. Riverstone does not have any significant product for the telecom industry.

I think it would prove very deadly to 3COM if it attempts to acquire either RiverStone or Force10 or both.

re: 3Com to Buy Force10, Riverstone? If you've been around long enough, you'll see everything old is "new" again. 3Com has been in and out of the networking hardware business more time than I can remember:

a) BICC/IsoLAN anyone?
b) Synoptics OEM?
c) Synernetics?
d) Chipcom?
e) Various bridging companies (LinkBuilder)?
f) Others that I can't remember

For 3Com to get back into the networking hardware business would be "business as usual" for them (again).

As to other acquisition rumors, I heard it reported that they were in talks with Foundry Networks...

re: 3Com to Buy Force10, Riverstone? Don't forget Bridge Communications which they bought around the late 80s, if I remember right.

re: 3Com to Buy Force10, Riverstone? If there are any executives at 3Com who were part of:

1. Buying US Robotics.
2. Selling off the enterprise network division

and are now thinking of getting back into the enterprise market, then they need to be sued for every penny they have, and then fired. These fools cost thousands of people their jobs, and it was all for nothing.

re: 3Com to Buy Force10, Riverstone? I IPO ed

Still beating the Foundry drum I see! How's the golf swing?

Some of you tee shots are still landing in the rough. 3Com cannot even take the credit for building the Palm Pilot. Palm was owned by US Robotics when they were aquired by 3Com. They did not even know what they had bought.

re: 3Com to Buy Force10, Riverstone? friend,

Executives at ALL companies need to be fired.
They are all a bunch of crooks anyways, trying
to exploit common staff. I know this posting
does not make sense but those bastards deserve it.
