re: 3Com & Huawei Launch Switch in US Does anybody really care ?

After the tarnished image of Huawei, and the previous 3Com exit from enterprise switching/routing to'refocus' on the low end SOHO/home marketplace, is anybody lining up to ditch their Cisco/Foundry/et al gear in favor of either of these two companies ?

re: 3Com & Huawei Launch Switch in US SO, forgive me for being a little "cynical" here, but this box looks *remarkably* similar (in appearance as well) to the Huawei 6506 Quidway Switch - except it's now black & grey instead of blue & grey.It also seems that the performance figures & the footprint/densities on the 3COM website (http://www.3com.com/products/e...

are also identical to the 6506 - although these do conflict the other figures of the 7700 released at the product launch. I'm sure this is just a bizarre co-incidence or a datasheet mistake, but I'd be interested in other opinions.... at least the instruction manual should now be legible.

re: 3Com & Huawei Launch Switch in US So now that they can't run IOS, what are they going to do? Don't tell me they turned out their own stack in three months.

I smell a rat.

Freakin' Hauwei. Only 3Com would be stupid enough to partner with those guys.

Their stuff sucks but at least they're crooks.

re: 3Com & Huawei Launch Switch in US "Does anybody really care?"
someone better do! Remember the clone of IBM PC actually take over IBM PC. When you are the number one, you must worry about the catch up guy.... the product is usually based on the modified reverse engineering version = lower cost, possibly better, fast develop cycle (get caught on copying code for examle). But still could be very strong competitor. To face and admit the competitor is wise, ignor them is silly...very silly. If you are from cisco, someone better lost some sleep now, rather than get some high blood pressure later....

my 2 cents.

re: 3Com & Huawei Launch Switch in US 3Com just announced 10% layoff.

Guess you don't need a full staff if you are just a VAR for Chinese networking equipment.

What are the margins on VAR resale gear? 2%-4%.

Good luck CDW..oops, I mean 3Com.

re: 3Com & Huawei Launch Switch in US
Be equitable, please, then getting respect from other people around you.

Every people or every company from every country is doing its best to making progress in every field of technology. So technologies of US company are not always the best and that of rest of the World are not always worse. Everything is changing all the time.

Lawsuit between Cisco and Huawei has not reached its end till now. So do not make your sense of judgement influenced so much.

Do not live just in dreams.

re: 3Com & Huawei Launch Switch in US Be equitable? Please. Huawei got caught red handed. Since it is obviously not beneath corporate culture there to borrow (steal) technology, it is only natural to believe that anything else that looks 'borrowed' is. Where was their sense of equity and fairness when they were ripping off other companies technology? I can't work up too many tears for anything bad that happens to Huawei.

Sounds like a nice place for a vacation - but not a good company.

re: 3Com & Huawei Launch Switch in US IBM PC hardware based on open standards, and copyrighted operating system. MSFT got rich, not IBM. All companies learn much from that doing. All companies learn do steal software is idea. Reason is Huawei cheat big time. Huawei get US idiot company to be co-criminal. Proves stupidity and criminal behavior in business is not based on nationality.

re: 3Com & Huawei Launch Switch in US A good place for vacation? You dream it !

If you haven't visited Huawei, I recommend you to visit it in your next vacation. Huawei has 20,000 Engineers and all of them work crazily. Everyday.

Can not image how people work 14 hours a day and study very happily? Go to Huawei !
