NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Completing its first year as an organization chartered to accelerate the adoption of optical Ethernet as the technology of choice in metro networks worldwide, the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) has announced that it has made significant progress at its annual (and 3rd quarter meeting), held recently in Montreal, Quebec. The major achievements moving forward in the review process include:

“The more than 100 contributing authors who provided input on the many initiatives reviewed in this meeting demonstrates the willingness of MEF member companies to collaborate and build consensus on the specifications of metro Ethernet,” said Nan Chen, president of the MEF. “The significant efforts made between MEF quarterly meetings and the steady consensus developed during each meeting is shaping the metro Ethernet marketplace.” This MEF quarterly meeting hosted over half the MEF member companies. Participants from the MEF Technical Committee reached consensus and moved sixteen (16) technical documents to MEF Draft status or beyond in the following four areas: Services, Protocol and Transport, Management, and Architecture.“MEF Process and Procedures require approval by at least 75 percent of membership to move any technical document to the MEF Draft status or beyond,” said Bob Klessig, vice president and co-chair of the MEF Technical Committee. “The record number of documents moving to the MEF Draft status or beyond indicates broad collaboration among MEF companies and convergence to MEF approved specifications starting early next year.”Metro Ethernet Forum
