AUSTIN, Texas -- Media Excel, Inc., a leading provider of digital video solutions for Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), Digital Home, and Mobile TV, today announced the immediate availability of their SoftStream® HERA 3000 system -- an affordable high quality real-time H.264 system for the telecommunications, digital signage, hospitality and related video over IP markets.

"Media Excel is committed to provide a flexible and easily configurable H.264 system to address telco carriers, service providers, hotels, digital signage, and production houses needs," said Mr. Thanasis Iatrou, Media Excel President and CEO. "Our design allows users to select between live video sources, digital broadcasts, video files, or MPEG files to generate H.264 streams in real-time that can be broadcasted and saved to disk. In this manner, the same system can be configured as an H.264 encoder, transcoder, and streaming system to quickly realize IPTV and Video On Demand services."

Media Excel delivers powerful H.264 systems by leveraging Texas Instruments' TMS320DM642 Digital Signal Processor (DSP). "The heart of HERA 3000 is a multi-processor module that packs significant computing power in a compact system," said Mr. Jongil Kim, Media Excel CTO. "With six DSPs and carefully crafted real-time algorithms, Media Excel delivers superior price-performance products to distribute high quality content over narrow band IP networks."

SoftStream® HERA 3000 interoperates with Media Excel's Streaming Media Server and Internet Protocol Set-Top Boxes (IP-STB) to provide and end-to-end systems ready for IPTV implementations. "With the introduction of HERA 3000, Media Excel provides H.264 solutions along every step of the way in the IPTV video distribution chain," said Eduardo Perez, Ph.D., Media Excel VP of Marketing. "Since we provide complete H.264 solutions, we are uniquely position in the market to provide lowest cost per channel, lowest cost per subscriber and shortest time-to-market."
