BELFAST and HELSINKI -- Latens Systems and Finland’s Maxisat Oy today announced that Maxisat has chosen Latens IP CAS Content & Revenue protection systems to safeguard its Pay-TV services. Maxisat is to provide encrypted Pay-TV services as part of its Maxinetti DSL based triple-play offering.

Maxisat multicasts MPEG-2 content using Terayon Cherrypicker multiplexers to IP-set top receivers provided by Kreatel. The TV content will be encrypted using the new Latens SEE (Stream Encryption Engine) and will only be decrypted by set top receivers entitled to do so by Latens IP CAS.

“Latens has the flexibility to be able to offer a system that can be easily integrated to our headend, our own Maxicaster middleware and back office systems and retro-fitted to our existing set-top boxes,” says Tommi Blom, Business Manager for Maxisat Oy. “Latens also gives us a cost advantage while protecting our triple-play revenues. By deploying Latens we are able to satisfy the security needs of our content suppliers while at the same time protecting revenues and reducing set-up & running costs.”

Latens technology provides a step-change in the security and functionality of Conditional Access for cable and broadband operators by securely maximizing the returns from the operator’s investment in its network. Latens employs new IT security techniques and uses the power of the two-way digital network to provide next generation Conditional Access for broadband and digital cable networks through Secure Software Modules (SSM) in the set-top-box. The SSM are monitored and managed through the network and whenever necessary are up-dated or replaced through the network.

“We won this contract because our next generation content and revenue protection systems provide un-rivalled flexibility, surpass all of Maxisat’s security requirements and are simple to integrate and operate,” says Andy Mathieson, Director, Latens. “I look forward to Latens IP CAS playing a part in Maxisat’s exciting new Maxinetti triple-play offering which increases the choice for Finland’s consumers of TV, broadband and telephony services.”
