SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Marvell(R) (NASDAQ: MRVL), a technology leader in the development of extreme broadband communications and storage solutions, today announced the availability of the Yukon(TM) EC Gigabit Ethernet controller for use in PCI Express platforms. The Yukon-EC is the world's smallest Gigabit Ethernet controller available for desktops, notebooks and servers. Marvell will demonstrate PCI Express enabled Gigabit Ethernet at Intel Developer Forum (IDF) 2004 in San Francisco on February 17 at booth number 736.

PCI Express is the next generation I/O interconnect technology that maintains compatibility with traditional PCI, the ubiquitous I/O interconnect which has been standard in PCs over the last 10 years. PCI Express is a standards based serial technology that brings greatly needed higher bandwidth to PC's to enable today's bandwidth hungry consumer and business applications. PCI Express is being launched in 2004.

The new Marvell Yukon-EC is the World's smallest PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller available today. The Yukon-EC controller comes in a 64-pin QFN package, which results in a minimal footprint enabling simplified, cost-effective motherboard implementations for sleek, high performance PCs, notebooks and mobile. An Ethernet controller integrates the key components required to connect a client or server to a Local Area Network.

The Yukon-EC controller device also features Marvell's innovative Virtual Cable Tester(TM) (VCT(TM)) technology to enable IT managers to easily identify cabling issues with pinpoint accuracy, thus significantly reducing the costs of the PC's network deployment and support. In addition, the Marvell Yukon-EC solution offers the industry's most comprehensive software driver suite that includes Windows, Linux, Netware, Unix and Mac. The common software driver suite across different platforms simplifies deployment of the variety of computer systems in an organization's network and further reduces IT support costs.

"Yukon-EC ensures that ODMs, motherboard and PC vendors will be able to deliver superior performance and compact size in the most cost effective implementations for PCI Express products," said David Young, Marvell's General Manager, Connectivity Business Unit, Communications Business Group.

"Gigabit Ethernet is a critical enterprise interconnect technology required for successful broad deployments of PCI Express starting next quarter." said Jim Pappas, Director of Initiative Marketing for Intel's Enterprise Platform Group. "Marvell's demonstration of its PCI Express-technology enabled Gigabit controller is another example of the industry's readiness to harness the capability of PCI Express technology in 2004 platforms."
