LIVINGSTON, U.K. -- Kymata, a leading designer and manufacturer of advanced planar integrated optical components for the telecommunications industry has secured a multi-million dollar product order from Marconi Communications. Kymata has delivered samples for internal evaluation and product demonstration during the last two months and volume delivery has now begun. Marconi is using Kymata components in its SmartPhotoniXT integrated family of products, which support optical transmission for long haul, regional and metropolitan networks, in a mix of line and ring topologies. Last month Marconi announced a $3B order for SmartPhotoniX from British Telecom for its UK optical network. This month SmartPhotoniX equipment entered service with Telecom Italia between Rome, Florence and Bologna.

Marconi SmartPhotoniX Project Manager Mike Sharratt said, "Kymata was chosen as a supplier due to their high level of expertise in optical technology and their ability to deliver leading edge functionality within the rapid timescales that the market demands."
