Luminous, Sonus Team on VOIP

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Luminous Networks, the first provider of carrier-class optical Ethernet platforms for Metropolitan Area Networks, today announced that it has joined the Sonus Networks (Nasdaq: SONS) Open Services Partner Alliance to provide carriers with a cost-effective, carrier-class voice and VoIP solution. The relationship with Sonus has the potential to revolutionize services provided by today's telecommunications carriers, as it allows them to offer multiple voice and data services from a common platform.

This combination provides carriers with the first toll-quality, carrier-class voice and VoIP capability on an optical Ethernet metro platform. Luminous' optical Ethernet platform transports aggregated time-division multiplexing (TDM) data traffic through Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs). The Luminous platform then sends the TDM and VoIP traffic to Sonus softswitches and SS7 signaling gateways via the Sonus GSX9000 Open Services Switch for integration into the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and other voice network systems.

"We are delighted to work with Luminous to help deliver carrier-class voice, VoIP, video and data services on a common optical Ethernet platform in Metropolitan Area Networks," said Terri Griffin, vice president of marketing programs, Sonus Networks. "With the addition of Luminous to our partner program, Sonus continues to pursue its goal of empowering standards-based interoperability between multiple network applications and Sonus products."

re: Luminous, Sonus Team on VOIP Can this deal be towards takeover. Can SONUS buy Luminous?.

I think so. If enough customers tell SONUS that it better buy Luminous, why not?

SONUS market cap is solid and everybody recommends this stock.
