CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- Luminent, Inc. (Nasdaq: LMNE; www.luminentinc.com), a global supplier of single-mode active and passive fiber optic components for high-capacity data transmission in the metropolitan and access markets, today announced its endorsement of Mindspeed Technologies’ SkyRail family of Serializer/Deserializer (SerDes) ICs for interfacing with Luminent's 4-channel Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM) family of modules. Mindspeed Technologiesä is the Internet infrastructure business of Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CNXT). Mindspeed Technologies’ Quad SkyRail CX27204 handles four simultaneous channels of 3.125 Gigabits per second with a single IC. This is a quantum leap, since all SerDes transceivers in production today can only handle speeds up to 2.125Gbps in multi-channel configurations or 2.5Gbps in a single-channel package.

"Feedback from our customers indicates that Mindspeed Technologies’ SkyRail transceiver operates reliably in a system at 3.125 Gbps," said Vikram Natarajan, Luminent's CWDM Product Marketing Manager. "Mindspeed Technologies has delivered a robust and feature-rich family of 3.125 Gbps SerDes transceivers, and, in addition, is the only supplier today to offer a production-ready SerDes transceiver product for 10 Gigabit Ethernet."
