CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- Luminent, Inc. (Nasdaq: LMNE), today announced the addition of new 1x2 and 2x2 Switches to the company’s vertically integrated line of passive and active fiber optic components and modules. The new products, based on standard industry Switch technology and produced in cost-effective large volumes, further enhances Luminent’s micro-optics platform of passive components. “Production levels are scheduled to reach 10,000 units per month,” explains Janpu Hou, Vice President of Business Development at Luminent’s Taiwan-based Passive Components Division. “Luminent has been able to create a commercially available switch producible in high volume and thus at lower costs, with those savings passed on to our customers,” says Hou. “In addition, there are plans for expansion of the production levels for the new switches, but those decisions are contingent upon market demand.”In a separate release:

One of the select few manufacturers that can combine active and passive technologies under the same roof, Luminent debuted two new Splitters, the result of two years of Research & Development conducted at Luminent’s Hsinchu Science Park laboratories in Taiwan. Luminent’s new 1 x 8 and 1 x 16 Splitters, developed from its advanced Planar Wave Guide Technology, feature state of the art design and fabrication to produce a break- through product. “Luminent has focused its technological resources on two segments, the Metro and the Access networks, subsequently producing a wide spectrum of cross connect products encompassing DWDM and CWDM for MAN,” explains Janpu Hou, Vice President of Business Development at Luminent’s Taiwan-based Passive Component’s Division. The Luminent facility had previously been recognized for its achievements when it received nine “Very Well Made in Taiwan” awards that included accolades for Luminent’s new CWDM thin film filters.
