BERLIN -- Lumics a manufacturer of pump laser modules and laser chips, announced a line of coolerless 980nm pump laser modules. The new product is based on Lumics propriety chip technology. The LU0980M1402 pump laser module operates without a thermoelectric cooler over a broad temperature range. Uncooled operation greatly reduces the total power consumption of the pump laser module. The new module uses a very small Mini-DIL package platform to operate over 0? to 70?C temperature range. The package footprint is just 7 x 13mm with a maximum height of 5mm. The coolerless modules are designed for use in fiber amplifiers deployed in high-speed optical telecommunications networks. Mini-DIL pump lasers will enable a significant reduction in the size and power consumption of EDFAs used in metro and long haul optical systems The Mini-DIL pump LU0980M1402 offers 140mW operating power at a significantly lower price point and reduced form factor compared to conventional pump packages. The pump performance over the 0-70oC temperature range is maintained by fiber Bragg grating (FBG) wavelength locking. "We believe that our outstanding chip technology and a flexible manufacturing strategy for uncooled 980nm Mini-DIL pump modules will benefit companies which design next-generation narrowband amplifiers by providing low cost and state-of-art chip technology" said George Schaefer, Director of Marketing of Lumics.
