SAN DIEGO -- OMM, Inc., the world leader in MEMS-based all-optical switching modules, today announced that Lumentis AB has incorporated OMM's products into the optical cross-connect (OXC) functionality of their Mentis 3000 Metro system.Using OMM's MEMS-based switching modules, an all-optical, single board, single slot OXC has been developed and commercialized by Lumentis as a part of the Mentis 3000 Metro system for dynamic wavelength management in metropolitan area networks. The transparency provided by the OXC ensures a future-proof solution for multi-data rates and dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) optical networks.OMM's products are the only MEMS-based photonic switching modules to meet Telcordia Technologies' stringent environmental and reliability requirements for carrier-class equipment. OMM's MEMS-based optical switching modules operate over the full wavelength range of 1290nm to 1610nm and operate independent of signal transmission data rate and signal protocol."We see medium sized all-optical cross-connects as the best enabler for flexible metro DWDM systems today. We needed a very compact and reliable solution and therefore the natural choice was OMM´s 2-D technology", said Dr. Magnus Oberg, Chief Technical Officer at Lumentis.OMM Inc.Lumentis AB
