NEW YORK -- Light Reading, the premier information resource for news and analysis of next-generation telecommunications technology, today launched the first examples of a new breed of interactive directory that will enable readers to delve into the details of services and products cited in articles on its Website.

The first two directories cover Ethernet Services and IP Services Software. Two more are under development, covering VOIP Services and Security Appliances, and further ones are planned. In each case, they serve as powerful tools enabling readers to shortlist and compare products and services meeting different requirements, using tables listing their key characteristics.

"It will bring a whole new dimension to our Website," said Peter Heywood, Founding Editor of Light Reading. "It gives readers access to a huge mine of information about products and services and enables them to analyze this data easily."

The Ethernet Services Directory currently lists 395 services from 222 providers around the world. Entries can be filtered according to service type, geographic coverage, and access media, to create tables providing further information, including the technology used to provide the service and the principal equipment suppliers of the operator.

The IP Services Software Directory currently lists 177 products from 108 companies. The products furnish the types of advanced IP services that network operators and enterprise users are beginning to deploy over converged IP infrastructure. The data can be filtered to create tables comparing technical and commercial details of comparable products and their suppliers.

Light Reading intends to make the directories one-stop destinations for information on these markets. Access to the directories is free for personal use. Companies can also provide entries free of charge.

Links to entries in the directories will be embedded in Light Reading articles. By clicking on the links, readers will be able to get further details about products and services referred to in the articles, or generate a table to compare them with competing offerings.
