Shares of Limelight Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: LLNW) are trading down $2.23 (35.01%) to $4.13 this afternoon as the company has lost a patent suit filed by rival Akamai Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM). (See Akamai Wins Patent Case.)

Limelight had been doing pretty well, in a sense, having succeeded in knocking two patents off the docket.

But a jury ruled today that Limelight violated the remaining patent, No. 6,108,703, titled "Global Hosting System," which covers the basic architecture of a content delivery network.

Limelight tried, but failed, to have the patent ruled invalid.

We'll have more news on this as details become available.
