DIETZENBACH, Germany -- LastMile, a leading German supplier of optical networking devices, releases new transponder module for its DWDM WavePilot system. The DWDM WavePilot, which has successfully been installed at Fortune 500 customers in the past four years is augmented with the new WCM-2 module. The new card is fully compliant with existing installations and offers numerous advantages.

With its more powerful lasers and sensitive APD receivers the distance between customer sites can be extended to more than 100 km. With up to 35 dB optical budget and possible data rates of 125 Mbit/s up to 2,67 Gbit/s all typical applications are supported. Alternatively, the WCM-2 is offered with a lower optical budget for shorter distances.

Its integrated clock recovery chip (3R) provides full regeneration of all common protocols with the same module for enhanced signal quality.A pluggable transceiver on the user side provides enhanced flexibility and reduces costs for spare parts and inventory. All typical SFP (small form factor pluggable) are supported, even CWDM wavelengths for further multiplexing at the access side.In combination with LastMile´s TDM TimePilot the WCM-2 transports several lower data rates, such as Fast Ethernet, ESCON, Gigabit Ethernet or 1G Fibre Channel concentrated onto one wavelength.

The first customers have already been served with the new module and successfully operate their new or upgraded network with applications, such as SDH STM-16, 2G Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet. Recent installations of the WavePilot include banking and broadcasting networks.
