LastMile adopts pluggable DWDM transceivers

DIETZENBACH, Germany -- LastMile´s bill works out even. The leading German supplier of optical networking devices has long focused on the development of optical transponder modules for its multiplexing system using the smart and flexible SFP transceivers. In the past SFPs have been available for "grey" and CWDM wavelengths only. In 2004 leading SFP vendors are releasing SFPs also for DWDM wavelengths to support the ITU 100 GHz grid and distances up to 120 km. Thus, LastMile now implements DWDM components in its highly scalable and modular FiberPilot platform. LastMile´s customers benefit from the seamless integration of all technologies. The OFX-1, as the heart of the platform, combines wavelength conversion function together with extensive backup and cross connect functions in the same module.

With its FiberPilot WDM concept, based on the OFX-1, LastMile offers one of the smallest ROADM on the market. Especially for access and metro networks most existing ROADM and DWDM systems are oversized and current CWDM systems do not meet the demand for future growth of the networks.

LastMile provides the perfect match between C- and DWDM technology. Starting with one lambda at very low costs and growing up to 44 lambdas, by using always the same platform and modules, low initial costs and long protection of investment are guaranteed. This is only one of the many reasons for choosing LastMile equipment.

LastMile´s TimePilot TDM modules also support SFPs. By using coloured SFPs, no additional transponder module is required, which is saving costs. An integrated protection mechanism can provide high availability features by switching to a redundant fiber pair in case of malfunctions on the primary fiber route. With additional filters only, this solution offers the best size and concentration ratio on the market for Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel or ESCON.
