EXETER, U.K. and RALEIGH, N.C. -- LastMile Communications (www.lastmilecoms.com), a developer of software and hardware for the delivery of wireless location- based information services, has named Gabriel Vizzard as Director of Marketing.

Vizzard is responsible for marketing, business development and solutions strategy for LastMile Communications worldwide, including its North American subsidiary, LastMile U.S.A. Inc. A veteran of the telecommunications industry, he started his career with telecommunications policy and economics at graduate school followed by software, hardware and services sales for IBM to wireline and wireless service providers in Europe and worldwide.

Vizzard was most recently the global leader for IBM's wireless broadband solutions, where his team successfully launched a range of solutions to communications and public sector customers in all of the three major geographies around the world. Previously within IBM he had managed partner alliances, where he created the first ISV partner programs for Java and the Internet. Prior to working at IBM Vizzard served in a variety of IT industry positions, both creating and selling solutions.

“We're thrilled to have someone of Gabriel's caliber leading our global marketing efforts as we reach the commercialization stage for our WDirectand MagicBook technologies,” says LastMile Communications CEO and joint founder Antony Abell. “His experience both in telecommunications and with IBM will be essential in our efforts to raise awareness of our technology with network operators, utilities, local governments, telecommunications companies and world-class content providers.”
