PETALUMA, Calif. and NEW YORK -- Last Mile Connections (LMC) and Turin Networks announced today that LMC has selected the Turin Traverse™ Multiservice Transport Switch as the foundation of its next generation LMC Centers to support its LMC Exchange nationwide. The deployment, which has already been successful in New York, Atlanta, Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles, significantly expands the capabilities of the LMC Exchange, a neutral e-marketplace utilizing reverse auctions for selling and buying telecom bandwidth services.

LMC is using Turin’s Traverse platform to aggregate and switch customer traffic in Tier-1 cities across the United States. The versatile architecture of Turin’s Traverse platform, which scales seamlessly to support rates from 1.5 Mbps to 10 Gbps, and supports any mix of SONET, SDH, Ethernet and wavelength provisioning capabilities from a single platform, allows LMC to offer a broad range of service offerings to their buyers while minimizing both capital and operating costs.

“Our mission is to provide the last mile connection in the simplest, most cost-effective way,” said Tom Gambino, vice president of network operations for LMC. “Our vision for the telecommunications service industry took a major step with Turin Networks, as LMC has eliminated any technological obstacle in the bandwidth market. We are able to answer any customer need today and tomorrow by delivering the desired service in the most affordable way. This offering is truly unique and is revolutionizing the way the telecom industry conducts business today.”

As Turin’s Traverse platform offers a high degree of interoperability with network equipment from LMC’s buyers and sellers, LMC provides the ideal networking environment for telecom operators, international carriers (SDH/SONET conversion), service providers and enterprises (Ethernet, LAN and Internet services). Thus, LMC buyers benefit from the ability to access thousands of buildings in every LMC metro market - Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and Washington DC.

"Turin Networks is proud to be such an integral part of the LMC Exchange," said Richard Stanfield, vice president of global sales for Turin Networks. "We are committed to delivering scalable, flexible optical networking platforms that enable our forward thinking customers like LMC to quickly deliver next-generation services to meet the evolving demands of their customers."
