SAN FRANCISCO -- The CEO of Lantern Communications (www.LanternCom.com), a driving force in resilient packet ring (RPR) technology, unveiled a dramatic solution for using optical Ethernet to deliver reliable and scalable packet-based services in the fast-emerging metropolitan area network (MAN) market.

Addressing the Network Outlook Conference yesterday in San Francisco, Nasser Hiekali urged industry adoption of the network architecture that optimizes the delivery of packet services in the MAN. Lantern is driving the development of RPR standards within the IEEE and is one of the founding members of the recently announced RPR Alliance.

"Ethernet is the most successful data transport technology ever created," Heikali stated. "Advances in its technology -- including full-duplex capability, scalability to 10Gbps, and support for optical transmission -- have prepared Ethernet for deployment in the wide area."
