LONDON -- Kasenna, the IPTV companyTM, today announced that reseller and technology integrator Thunderworx is deploying the company’s solution to support the IPTV platform it is building for Primetel, a leading Cypriot telecommunications company. One of the key components of the IPTV platform is Kasenna’s reliable, high-performance video delivery software MediaBase, which will provide streaming VOD (Video on Demand) content as well as network-based Personal Video Recording (NPVR) function for live TV recording, pause and playback.

Thunderworx, part of the Teledev East group, is a leading provider of value-added telecom services, Internet, IT solutions and operator services. It was chosen by Primetel, which already provides home users with telephony and Internet services, to provide an IPTV-based VOD service for home subscribers that will be rolled out in 2006.

Vladimir Ivaschenko, CTO for Thunderworx, says: “We needed to build a reliable solution that could provide our customers with interactive services, including video on demand. We have worked with Kasenna in the past and are impressed with the exceptional flexibility and market-leading performance of its MediaBase solution. Because MediaBase is an open platform, running on standard hardware such as Intel/Linux servers, it provides a perfect match for the IPTV solutions we are building.”

Robert Hopkins, Managing Director for Kasenna in Europe, concluded: “Telecommunications providers are constantly looking at ways to improve their revenues and are starting to bank on IPTV as a powerful value-added service that enables them to gain competitive advantage. We are delighted MediaBase is part of this innovative thinking as it minimizes the OPEX and CAPEX requirements and provides customers with a quicker time to profitability. Our proven VOD, NPVR (network-based Personal Video Recording) and TimeshiftTV technology will empower service providers to add real value to their overall IPTV service offerings.”

MediaBase is a high performance, scaleable video server platform that provides the underlying streaming and content delivery network for Video on Demand services as well as capture facilities for NPVR. Available for Linux operating systems, MediaBase XMP is the industry’s first and only full-featured platform that handles deployment of video in multiple formats (MPEG-4, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and Windows Media 9), from narrowband to broadband to broadcast using open standards on mainstream computing hardware.
