Are You Earning as Much as Your Peers?

Do you ever wonder what sort of pay check the guy in the next cube is taking home each month? Or how many figures separate you from your boss?

Wonder no more! As part of Light Reading's annual Salary Survey, nearly 1,200 telecom professionals, including more than 320 service provider staff, told us how much they make, how they feel about it, and what their prospects are for the future.

This is the fourth year we've completed the survey, and it's consistently been a good way to get a feel for what's really going in the industry.

But, back to the numbers… Of our respondents, 55% make more than $100,000 per year. For those that work at Tier 1 service providers, a large part of Light Reading's audience, 52% make more than $100,000, and 35% fall between $90,000 to $120,000, down somewhat from the 41% who made as much last year, but in line with 2011 numbers.

Even better news for this well-paid bunch? Sixty percent of respondents are expecting to make more money this year than they did last year, and 30% thought it would be a bump of more than 5%. Compared to last year when 56% of respondents thought their pay would be the same, it's clear the industry is on the right path.

The Salary Survey wasn't solely focused on dollars and cents though. We also asked about new technologies like SDN, NFV, and LTE, which companies those in the industry admire, headcount changes, satisfaction levels, and a lot more. Income Surveys Are Of Much Importance
You may be curious to learn what the person tin the next office earns and whether what you earn is geed enough or not. People always want to know whether they are the only ones earning the bracket of money they get every month. Well, the surveys carried out in different departments for employees in different fields help in a number of ways. They give percentages of people who earn whiting a certain bracket of a certain amount. These helps employees be aware of where they lie and also helps employers consider increasing their employees' salaries and so on. These surveys also help the government make certain necessary decisions.

I know s/o in It who is earning close to 30% less now than he did before 2010. He doesn't find the market so strong. He's interviewing but finds some salarie even lower than at the place he's been for a few years now with only the tiniest of raises.

I was surprised, especially since they are higher than in year's past, but that's a good sign. 

Btw, we can also filter the survey results by positions, geographies, industry sectors, etc, so we can delve in where there's money to be had and what not in future blog posts. The salary survey is the gift that keeps on giving!
