CALABASAS, Calif. -- Ixia (Nasdaq: XXIA), a leading, global provider of IP performance test systems, announced today new capabilities for its Optixia hardware platform that almost triples its subscriber emulation scalability. Using the Aptixia IxLoad Triple Play test application, service providers and system vendors can emulate virtual 'countries' of web users, more than 40 million, connecting at the rate of over 1.5 million users per second; virtual 'cities' of voice callers, making more than 60,000 simultaneous calls; and virtual 'towns' of video subscribers, receiving more than 30,000 standard definition video streams - all from a single Optixia chassis. These new capabilities make Ixia the only vendor that can ensure true Triple Play service quality for carrier class networks at this level of scalability from a single test system.

A single Optixia chassis populated with the new Content Processing Module (CPM) delivers these results in less than 16 inches of rack space and with only 1,900 watts maximum power draw. To provide equivalent results, competitive systems typically require 16 individual appliances using more than five times the rack space and more than four times the power draw. Considering space and power limitations in most test labs, and the mounting cost and environmental impact of increased energy use, the Optixia platform is both user and environmentally friendly.

"As service providers scale and deploy their Triple Play networks, they will quickly be confronted with the impact of millions of web surfers hitting the network at the same time that thousands of IPTV subscribers tune into their favorite programming," said Jeff Heynan, senior analyst at Infonetics. "The ability to efficiently assure both Quality of Service on the network and Quality of Experience for their subscribers prior to rolling out these new high volume services could provide carriers a competitive advantage."
