It’s the TV, Stupid

1:25 PM -- The first day of keynotes for TelcoTV is over, and my takeaway is: It’s the TV, stupid.

Most keynote speakers, including Jeff Weber of AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T), Ramu Potarazu of Avail-TVN , and Brook Longdon of Nokia Networks all agreed that telcoTV providers need to focus on the TV experience before everything else. Service providers should not get distracted by all of the noise surrounding the fringe of IPTV and its non-TV centric services. (See TelcoTV: IPTV No Longer Risky for Telcos.)

The message is service providers should focus on creating the best TV experience possible, and everything else flows from there. More broadband and even voice subscriptions will come, if the TV experience is right. If it’s wrong, telcoTV providers do so at their own peril.
