IRS to Church: Shut Up!

1:00 PM -- From the CNN.com Dept. of Comparative Religion:

The Internal Revenue Service has warned a prominent liberal church it could lose its tax-exempt status because of an anti-war sermon a guest preacher gave on the eve of the 2004 presidential election, church officials say.

The Rev. George F. Regas did not urge parishioners at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena to support either President Bush or John Kerry, but he was critical of the Iraq war and Bush's tax cuts.
This so-called Christian criticized the President? Can't have that. I mean, once you allow churchmen to dabble in politics, where will it end?

re: IRS to Church: Shut Up! Porn and the underground (aka cash) economy, aka eBay. Ripped of CDs, DVD's, and fresh stolen goods all for cash, or should I say PayPal.

OK, no illicit drugs or slave girls...yet.

A million points of (anarchistic) light!

Wahoo!

re: IRS to Church: Shut Up! OpticOm was sarcastic alright.

"fifth column: clandestine group or faction of subversive agents who attempt to undermine a nation's solidarity. "

Anytime anything different from people's view is mentioned, some folks have a habit of hitting back with all kinds of name calling. :-)

There are mechanical appliances that can be attached to computers and synched with Porn.

And yes, Porn - and to a great extent entertainment in general - generates more money than all the great social goals the Internet set out to be.

Many ISPs started in the Porn business (Concentric comes to mind).

re: IRS to Church: Shut Up! Personally,

I think Porn is a godsend for this industry; it is one of the true business success models of the internet, preceding Ebay, Amazon and Google. It helps to generate jobs in the industry by using vast amounts of bandwidth to send and resend jpgs via emails. Now that broadband is becoming more prevalent, the porn industry is stepping up to plate and putting streaming video on many websites, further bolstering bandwidth requirements.

Where would the communications industry be without porn?

(not that I ever took part in the product oferings....)

re: IRS to Church: Shut Up! I still remember the "old" days, when LR had plenty of flame wars ... but they at least had something to do with the Telecom Industry. Then the two or three worst perpetrators went away, and there was relative peace.

Lately LR keeps getting into these off-topic discussions. If LR wants to just be a useless discussion board on every social topic they choose, that's their choice. But I find it very annoying.

Hardly. The reference to the "fifth column" in his post is pretty compelling evidence of irony. Haven't heard that phrase in a while.

OpticOm, take a deep breath, actually read the Larry post above, and then look up "irony" in a dictionary.

I think OpticOm was trying some irony of his own.

Sigh. I must have killed several people in a previous life.

Larry,

Does killing several people in a previous life cause the ability to think to be capped at a 3rd grade level?

What does this have to do with LR? Is it a content discussion? If so I would rather discuss porn...

re: IRS to Church: Shut Up!
I read the article. The church claimed to not support any candidate. That claim is no more valid at this time than the IRS's claim that they did (which would be the reason they could remove tax exempt status). Until the entire thing is vetted out, it is unclear what the story is.

I was simply pointed out that this is the reason the article was written that way. Did you actually read my post?

re: IRS to Church: Shut Up! This reminds me very much of Usenet trolling by the posting of some flame bait. I stopped reading Usenet 1o or so years ago becasue of practices like this.

re: IRS to Church: Shut Up! If you read the article, the church did not endorse any political candidate.

re: IRS to Church: Shut Up!
If you read the law, the candidate support was important to list is that backing a candidate is expressly forbidden for a church to keep its tax exempt status.

I suspect that you were unaware of that.

re: IRS to Church: Shut Up! What is a RED panda anyway?

I suggest LR stays out of politics, it is useless and the majority of the readers are AMERICANS!
Who are the authors???

re: IRS to Church: Shut Up! How you dare say that?!
If you don't like it, go back to the place you came from.
Because you are, probably, a member of the fifth column anyhow.
