Intel Gets Slapped

3:00 PM -- It's outside the LR purview but worth noting: Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) has finally come under antitrust accusations from the European Union.

The case hinges on allegedly illegal rebates to computer makers. And it's not the first time Intel has been accused of anti-competitive tactics.

Since the case will drag on for years, I won't linger on it right now. It's Friday, and I've got a more fun blog to finish about Redback Networks Inc. and the Grand Prix.

re: Intel Gets Slapped Actually there's a point worth discussing here -- Is this just a case of AMD whining, or did Intel really do something that is (or should be) illegal?

Multiple shades of gray possible in there. I haven't followed the EU case closely, I'll admit, so I don't have a well developed opinion yet.

But I do think the EU does a better job policing competitiveness than the U.S. does. Some would say the EU is just being "anti-business," but I don't think AMD would agree.
