WEST MALLING, KENT, U.K. -- UK based ilotron Ltd., the first company in the world to deliver a carrier network solution combining all-optical switching and long haul transmission, today announced that it will have a fully functional switch running at its booth, #2593, at the Optical Fibre Communications Conference in Anaheim from March 19-21. This marks the company's entrance into the US market where it will begin selling its Optical Wavelength Switch (OWS). The OWS enables carriers to make a cost-effective transition to all-optical networking via a cost-effective 'pay-as-you-grow' approach.

The heart of the OWS is a flexible, intelligent and transparent photonic switching architecture, scalable in both fibre and wavelength planes to a capacity of multiple petabits per second. The OWS offers full wavelength switching and add/drop, including dynamic wavelength translation, and selective regeneration, as well as integrated DWDM line termination, and ultra long haul transmission. In addition, the OWS provides a smooth migration path to all-optical wavelength conversion and regeneration and optical packet switching.

"For more than a year, companies have been selling the religion of all-optical networking, but have yet to deliver a scalable solution that is cost-effective for carriers to implement today," said Dr Chris Lilly, president and CEO of ilotron. "Especially in today's market environment, carriers need a solution that delivers all of the benefits promised by all-optical networking, lower capex, lower opex and virtually unlimited scalability. ilotron's Optical Wavelength Switch is the first product on the market to deliver on these promises."
