Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ; headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; president: Koichi Suzuki; NASDAQ: IIJI) today announced that IIJ completed an upgrade of its Japan-US backbone lines from 620Mbps to 775Mbps on March 1, 2000.

The upgrade means that an additional 155Mbps(OC3) line to IIJ's current 310Mbps (155Mbps+155Mbps) lines connecting Tokyo and Palo Alto(PAIX) is activated. Combined with the existing 155Mbps Tokyo and San Jose(MAE-WEST) connection and 155Mbps Osaka and IIJ NY NOC, the new line allows IIJ to offer its users a total of 775Mbps in bandwidth, making this the world's largest and fastest Internet backbone between Japan and the U.S.
