Re: Un-buy Yahoo
I was thinking about the magical method to "unbuy" when I selected it in the poll. If it were so easy as to say "we're out", that would have been a good move.

I didn't realize Yahoo content was so active/worthwhile...

Re: Not cable
@Craig: As I remember pointing out at the time, the amount of money Verizon spent on Yahoo could have been used for a lifetime lease on Liechtenstein and/or "the best arcade birthday party ever". (link)

In any case, if they can afford Yahoo at more than $4bil, one would think they can certainly afford a much better acquisition (especially if time is a factor).

Re: Un-buy Yahoo
@Michelle: It's been argued that the deal was more about the content.

In any case, the only reason why I didn't choose "unbuy Yahoo" was because of the litigation/pain in the butt that would entail.

But if I could snap my fingers and change the past by magic, well, maybe that would be worth doing.

Re: Not cable
M&A rumors about Verizon/MSO M&A must come from bored Wall St. analysts with overactive imaginations. What's in it for VZ? A bunch of HFC plant (CFO Matt Ellis: "the fiber they have is not the fiber we want")? A lot of strained customer relationships? A dying television business? Some business customers? Big plans to upgrade aging capital assets with new ones? Integration problems on top of integration problems?

Everything I hear them saying indicates that their primary focus is on building their network, with lesser emphasis on their media and IoT businesses. M&A will probably look more like XO than like Comcast.

McAdam taking a summer break would not be a bad idea.

Un-buy Yahoo
I voted for un-buy Yahoo. I have no idea why they went ahead with the deal after a major security breach was announced. I guess we'll all learn the real reasons in time (maybe).

Re: Not cable
Even under the current regime, the chance that Verizon would get approval to buy either Sprint or T-Mobile is as close to zero as you can get.

Not cable
Well, in the early going (first 45 votes), the cable option is clearly losing out. Only about 9% response, behind Disney & Yahoo.

"Take the summer off" is a popular choice, but it might also be the best one -- having just bought Yahoo, can Verizon really absorb another big acquisition right now? (Counterpoint: Can they afford to wait?)
