iAnywhere Pushes for Always-On

iAnywhere Solutions Inc. says it is planning to add better messaging capabilities to its growing suite of mobile applications.

The Sybase Inc. subsidiary today announced a new wireless email suite and plans to further strengthen its messaging capabilities as 2.5G and 3G networks arrive.

"We're focused on delivering more robust messaging technology as the devices and networks support it," says Tina Lorentz, director of business development for iAnywhere.

The firm is especially keen on developing more technology that "pushes" pre-defined messages and data to mobile devices.

iAnywhere is already incorporating some of this technology in its new Mail Anywhere Studio, with automatic mail delivery and synchronization.

However, as Lorentz points out, this type of technology really requires an "always-on" connection to be effective -- and, although there are some packet-based networks that can do this, there are very few Pocket PC- or Palm-based handheld computers that support these connections available yet.
