Hughes is now a member of Qwest Communications International's winning team for a recently announced US GSA Networx Universal contract

GERMANTOWN, Md. -- Hughes Network Systems, LLC(HUGHES), the global leader in broadband satellite network solutions andservices, today announced that it is a member of Qwest CommunicationsInternational Inc.'s winning team for a recently announced U.S. GeneralServices Administration's (GSA) Networx Universal contract. Hughes willprovide satellite broadband network equipment and services as asubcontractor in support of federal mission-critical telecommunicationsrequirements. The entire Networx program, to include the smaller NetworxEnterprise contracts, is estimated at $68 billion over the life of the10-year contracts, and will provide voice, IP, wireless, and satelliteservices to 135 federal agencies across 191 countries.

Hughes is the world leader in providing satellite broadband networksand services, which are based on very small aperture terminal (VSAT)technology. These network offerings are ideal for connecting geographicallydispersed offices, many in rural locations not accessible by terrestrial orwireless alternatives. In addition, Hughes' satellite-based solutions offergovernment a true alternate path, redundant networking option for thepurposes of Continuity of Operations (COOP) and emergency response thatensures federal facilities, telecommuters, and mobile employees cancontinue working even if an agency's primary terrestrial network fails.
