Huawei OptiX OSN 1800 Ranked as Leader with the Highest Score in Packet-Optical Access by GlobalData

Huawei OptiX OSN 1800 has been ranked as the only "Leader" in Packet-Optical Access by GlobalData, in the latest report Packet-Optical Access: Competitive Landscape Assessment published in January 2023. This means that, since August 2022, Huawei has received this accolade from GlobalData in all Packet-Optical assessment reports: Core Packet-Optical Platform, Metro Packet-Optical Transport, and Packet-Optical Access.

As a leading provider of industry data, analytics, and insights, GlobalData made the decision after assessing Packet-Optical Access products from multiple top vendors across ten dimensions: data support, capacity, transport features, physical attributes and management, Ethernet interfaces and so on.

Huawei's latest OptiX Alps-WDM solution builds a metro network with the optimal TCO. It uses highly integrated Huawei OptiX OSN 9800 and OptiX OSN 1800 series to extend all-optical switching OXC from the core layer to the access layer. By building a dynamic bandwidth resource pool, this solution achieves 100G to sites, helping carriers reduce network construction costs by more than 30% and operation costs by 90%. It also provides capacity that meets the requirements of all-service development and evolution in the next decade.

  • This solution has the following highlights:

  • 100% coherent: The fully-coherent optical module 100G mQPSK is customized to optimize and integrate algorithms, silicon photonics ICTR integration, and receiver sensitivity to achieve the optimal cost per bit.

  • 100% OXC: As the industry's first all-optical switching element, the M x N WSS optimizes the optical path layout, increases density, and reduces insertion loss in terms of deflection architecture, port isolation, and material coating to achieve multi-input multi-output grooming. This extends all-optical switching from the core layer to the aggregation and edge layers and enables E2E OXC capabilities.

  • 100% pooling: The capabilities of nine traditional FOADM optical subracks are integrated into one ROADM optical subrack to build a wavelength resource sharing pool. In this way, each ring and node can apply for wavelengths on demand, saving equipment footprint and power consumption by more than 80%.

  • 100% automation: Digital optical label is developed to carry parameters such as wavelengths, spectral widths, and modulation formats without affecting channel services, cutting a large amount of labor costs, and reducing O&M costs by 90%.

"The Huawei OptiX OSN 1800 V Pro provides industry-leading high-speed client port density, and leading switching capacity," said Emir Halilovic, Research Director in GlobalData’ Technology division, "These features, together with diverse available client port types and high transmission capacity, enable operators to use the OptiX OSN 1800 series to efficiently support various transmission scenarios, including enterprise private lines and mobile transmission."

Victor Zhou, President of Huawei Optical Transmission Network Domain, said, "Huawei is committed to promoting optical transport solutions and product innovation, and working with global operators to build all-optical networks to achieve ultimate service experience."
