Handspring Offers Sweetener

Unstrung loves to hear about useful wireless applications, especially if developments can help promote general health and well being. Honestly, we do have a heart.

Indeed, we remember with fondness how Ericsson AB (Nasdaq: ERICY) won the "Best Use of Wireless for Emergency Situations" award at this year's GSM Association shindig in Cannes. The recipient from the Swedish vendor giant strode onto the stage to proudly announce that "Ericsson has been involved in a lot of disasters in the past year." At which point 600 people all choked on their Poulet avec frites froides.

But moving swiftly back to the matter in hand -- namely, health: We spotted a news release -- PDAs Measure Blood Glucose -- which we implore you to read, especially if you're a healthcare professional, or your own blood sugar level is something you need to keep an eye or two on.

What caught our attention in particular is the description of TheraSense's FreeStyle system as "virtually pain-free." We've watched ER, and "virtually pain-free" sounds like something the spin doctor would have a field day administering. Now, what exactly are those Handspring attachments really for?
