BRIDGEWATER, N.J. -- Hamamatsu Corporation introduces the L9534/S9022 light emitter/sensor that can serve as a transmitter and receiver in high-speed optical data links that have transmission speeds up to 125 Mbps. Conforming to IEEE1394.b/S100, the L9534/S9022 feature a LVPECL input/output, are compact in size, highly reliable, and deliver high performance, making them well suited for design into short-range high-speed optical systems such as home networks.

The transmitter, which consists of the L9534 red LED and H9020 LED driver IC (integrated circuit), has high-speed response and high output power. Featuring a peak emission wavelength of 650 nm, the L9534 has a spectral half width of typically 10 nm. It has fiber coupled optical power ranging from -6.5 dBm to -3 dBm, pulse width distortion range of -1 ns to +1 ns, and maximum jitter of 1.5 ns at 125 Mbps.

Complementing the transmitter is the S9022 receiver, which integrates the H9021 comparator. The S9022 is a monolithic photo IC that has wide dynamic range and a unique signal detection function that creates a maximum signal detection level of -24 dBm. The receiver also has a minimum overload of -2 dBm and maximum input power of -22 dBm. Other specifications include maximum rise and fall times of 2 ns, pulse width distortion range of -1.5 ns to +1.5 ns, and maximum jitter of 2.5 ns at 125 Mbps.

In addition to their performance, the L9534/S9022 are advantageous in optical link designs because of their size. They measure 5.2 W x 10.9 L x 1.77 H (mm). The H9020 and H9021 are 5 W x 5 L x 1.6 H (mm).

The L9534/S9022 is priced at $5.36/7.26 in OEM quantities. Delivery is 5 to 6 weeks ARO.
