Guns + Booze

4:40 PM -- Our British friends just don't get it. The Guardian reports:

Up to 375,000 registered gun owners in Arizona and Tennessee were today given the right to carry concealed guns into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol, in the latest example of loosening gun laws in a country already renowned for its lax approach to firearms.

The change of the two states' gun laws marks a trend across the US towards increased rights for gun owners despite a spate of bloody rampages in recent months that have seen scores of Americans die. Advocates of the second amendment's right to bear arms argue that in the wake such shooting sprees, citizens should be able to defend themselves by carrying guns in public places.

But opponents say this is the logic of the mad house...
Yeah, well...

It's not getting better out there, folks.

Well, this makes two.

More from the Guardian:

"...this year alone there have been three mass shootings carried out by men with licences to carry concealed guns. In February, Frank Garcia killed four people "execution-style" in upstate New York; in March, Michael McLendon killed 11 people before committing suicide in Alabama; and in April, Richard Poplawski ambushed four police officers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, killing three." [emphasis added]

(Alcohol may have been involved.)

Does everyone feel safer now?

Maybe they should outlaw the booze, it worked so well the last time.

I think the best idea so far was by Chris Rock: bullet control.

What they should do is make each bullet cost $1,000.00 (USD).

Then when you see someone get shot, you know they did something.

The Founding Fathers, were, I believe, reticent on the question of packing heat in bars (or "taverns" as they called them). Though it may have been briefly touched on in the Federalist Papers.

Although it may be easier to do if the 1st Amendment is repealed first. And the rest of that pesky Bill of Rights, too.

Well, that's an interesting statistical analysis. Would be even better, of course, were there any truth to it.
