Going Over the Top
"You will be seeing a growth in over the top video delivery from Internet sources... I think that, first of all, we're mostly getting this content delivered to our PCs," says Jesse Simsarian, who works in Alcatel-Lucent's Data & Optical Networks group.
So Simsarian says service providers could be partnering with TV networks to have this broadband video content cached on their servers, to make it easier for the consumer at home to watch. "It's not expected to overtake the kind of closed network [like, cable MSO] video on demand services, particularly because you can get high-definition content and an experience that most people are used to," he says.
