SILVER SPRING, Md. -- Global Metro Networks, Ltd. ("Global Metro") announced today that it has begun constructing last-mile fiber optic networks in Amsterdam, Munich and Paris, bringing the number of European cities where Global Metro is currently constructing networks to five. These new multi-duct, last-mile metropolitan rings will be ready for service for telecommunications carriers, Internet service providers (ISPs) and large enterprises by year-end 2001.

"We are aggressively penetrating major metropolitan cities in the U.S. and Europe to meet a surging demand for advanced last-mile networks with unlimited bandwidth capacity," said Global Metro President and Chief Operating Officer Doug Hudson. "In addition to constructing our own fiber networks, we are acquiring conduit from competitive network providers to accelerate the development of our portfolio of networks and quickly establish Global Metro as a leading provider of dark fiber at fixed cost in major cities across the U.S. and Europe."
