Calix Powers 5 New Muni Gig-Ready Deployments
PETALUMA, Calif. - Calix, Inc. (CALX), the world leader in enabling next generation service delivery with an unmatched subscriber experience, today once again demonstrated its leadership in the "muni" broadband market by announcing five new Calix-enabled municipal broadband service providers who are transforming their communities through the power of fiber optic infrastructure and services. More than 50 Calix powered, community-owned networks in 23 states are leveraging their fiber networks to drive economic development, keep local anchor institutions on the cutting edge, and deliver the world-class broadband experience they need to delight their citizens and enable them to compete on an increasingly competitive global stage.
In Independence, Iowa, Independence Light and Power, Telecommunications (ILP, T) is leaving its HFC plant behind to move to an all-fiber network for the delivery of an unmatched broadband experience of high-speed data, television, and voice services to all of its business and residential subscribers. With this powerful fiber network in place, supported by Calix 725GE ONTs and E7-2 Modular Access Systems, ILP, T will begin to deliver managed Wi-Fi services to its subscribers and expand the reach of its service offering to homes and businesses outside of the city limits of Independence. Local citizens are excited for the upgrade, and ILP, T is already experiencing unprecedented demand for its new fiber-driven broadband services.
"Every week, we are adding more and more broadband subscribers who are looking for a robust and reliable broadband service," said Josh Vandenburg, network engineer at ILP, T. "By moving to the Calix solutions, we are now able to seamlessly transition to fiber, which allows us to roll out new services and fully utilize the 10 gigabit per second ring that runs through Independence. Now with the ability to offer managed Wi-Fi and the foundation in place for the next generation of broadband services, the sky is the limit for our community."
ILP, T is just one example of the growing success of municipal broadband networks around the country. While a variety of different network models have been used from open access, to municipally-owned utilities, to county-wide networks, Calix solutions are at the center of each of these community-changing networks. Examples of these innovative approaches include:
"Since the infancy of the municipal broadband movement, Calix has played a leading role in helping communities to take their broadband destiny into their own hands, and create new opportunities through the power of fiber broadband services," said John Colvin, senior vice president of North America sales. "In our experience, making the leap to broadband has been transformational for every municipality that we've worked with, creating new jobs and new investment, as well as stimulating civic pride. Whether through the Carrier Class Wi-Fi of the Calix GigaCenters or the ability to offer gigabit services from the Calix E-Series systems, we are continuing to extend our leadership with municipal broadband providers as we work together to ensure that an unmatched subscriber experience is available for all."
