FREMONT, Calif. -- Genoa Corporation announced today that it has added two new linear optical amplifiers (LOA) to its product line. The new offerings, designated the G110 and G212 Linear Optical Amplifiers, join Genoa's landmark G111 LOA to offer network equipment designers a range of gains from 10 to 25 dB for use in C-Band, single- and multi-channel (DWDM) applications. The G111, announced in 2001, recently began first commercial shipments. The G110 is targeted at uses where unity gain segments or lossless modules are desired to maximize network flexibility. Additionally, the amplifier is ideal in transmit boost systems where additional gain is needed. It offers fixed gain of 10 dB. The variable gain G212 is designed for higher-gain applications such as receiver pre-amps or in-line amplification. Its gain is fully controllable over the range of 15 to 25 dB. Rick Gold, president and CEO of Genoa characterizes this announcement as a natural progression for pioneer Genoa. "The LOA is reminiscent of the early transistor. As manufacturers gained experience with that device, and designers began to realize the breadth of possible applications, the number of variants literally exploded. Although that future may be a few years off for the linear optical amplifier, the trend has clearly started." Genoa Corp.
