Mobile startups grabbed a total of US$421.8 million in funding in March, according to the latest report from Rutberg & Co.
The March VC haul is almost half that of the $813.6 million total for February. Funding totals can fluctuate wildly month to month.
Top funded companies include:
Daisy: A spin-out from Beats Electronics that has $60 million to take on Spotify and more in the mobile music space. Funders include Access Industries and individual investors.
Virgin Mobile MEA: $50 million came in for this Middle Eastern mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) from the Gulf Investment Corporation.
Liquid Robotics: This Californian company, which designs unmanned devices that can be used as floating data centers and more, got $45 million.
In total, 75 companies got VC funding. Investment trends include mobile messaging apps, mobile app monitoring and testing solutions, smart targeted advertising, and consumer mHealth devices, Rutberg says in the report.
