SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Foundry Networks®, Inc. (Nasdaq:FDRY - News), Mitsui/Bussan Networks, Ltd., Foundry's distributor in Japan, and NEC Corporation, Foundry's Japanese reseller partner, announced today that Kyodo News, one of Japan's largest news services, has installed Foundry's BigIron® Layer 3 10-Gigabit Ethernet switches as the network backbone for its new head office building, after a successful 10-Gigabit Ethernet trial in the NEC system integrator network.Recognizing the growing capacity of news content, Kyodo News was quick to start building a backbone network for its next-generation information system. Using Foundry's high-performance, BigIron Layer 3 switches as its core, the new system is intended to facilitate news reporting and editing, increase the speed of information processing, and help enable next generation bandwidth intensive applications."Because of the nature of its business, Kyodo News needed a high performance network infrastructure featuring the highest levels of reliability, speed, broadband connectivity, and freedom from system faults and delay problems," said Bobby Johnson, president and CEO of Foundry Networks. "By choosing Foundry's BigIron 10-Gigabit Ethernet switch as the backbone, I believe that we will be able to provide them with a solution that is both fast and highly operable, with our carrier-class reliability and safety available from 10Gigabit Ethernet."Foundry Networks Inc.
