SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Foundry Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, todayannounced that its award-winning BigIron(r) RX series of Ethernetswitches enabled the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX), the world'slargest public Internet exchange, to reach Internet traffic throughputin excess of 230 Gigabits per second (Gbps). AMS-IX connects IPnetworks for more than 250 Internet Service Providers and carriersworldwide.

A pioneer in utilizing industry-leading high-capacity switches,AMS-IX's exponential growth rate requires increasingly greaterswitching capacity. Already the world's largest public peering Internetexchange in terms of bandwidth, clients, applications and switch ports, the exchange continues to grow significantly every month. Toaccommodate their continued traffic growth and protect their extensiveinfrastructure investment, AMS-IX determined that the performance, application convergence capabilities, consistent non-stop operation, and scalability of the Foundry BigIron RX-16 10-Gigabit Ethernet(10-GbE) switch made it the best available solution for their demandingthroughput and scalability requirements.

"AMS-IX hit a historical milestone in November when traffic flowingacross our infrastructure exceeded 200Gbps," said Henk Steenman, chieftechnical officer for AMS-IX. "The ease of migration between Foundryproducts to support this growth, combined with the service and supportreceived by Foundry Networks has been a vital factor in our success."
