DENVER, CO -- Formus Communications Ireland, a subsidiary of Denver-based Formus Communications Inc., has announced that it has signed an alliance agreement that will provide it access to 12 fiber-based STM-1 communications links. The landmark agreement will provide eight links from Ireland to Europe and four from Ireland to the United States, with a total capacity of 1,860 Mb/s. The Irish Government brokered the alliance agreement, with Global Crossing Network Center Ltd. and Global Crossing Ireland Ltd. providing the network capacity.

The links will form the basis of a Formus Communications pan-European backbone network. These critical international network connections, managed by Formus Ireland, will interconnect Formus Communications’ local networks throughout Europe and with the global Internet. The agreement includes provisions to increase capacity and reach in the future as needed. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
