For God, Country &... Lakehead?
Now the northern Ontario school is back in the headlines, for insulting a rather better-known university and the president of the United States. As part of a marketing campaign, Lakehead has set up a Website called YaleShmale.com. The tag line on the first page reads, "Graduating from an Ivy League university doesn't necessarily mean you're smart."
Next to it: a headshot of George W. Bush. The university has also issued posters of the Yale Shmale image.
Now, I'm no Bush fan, but I am a Yale alum, and I think maybe Lakehead is a terrier snapping at the heels of the wrong bulldog, as it were.
"It was literally a tongue-in-cheek way of getting attention," university president Frederick Gilbert -- who also led the anti-wireless campaign -- told Reuters. Student union president Isabelle Poniatowski disagreed, calling the site "repugnant."
Hmm, maybe there's a hidden link here. Was Yale by any chance conducting radio-frequency tests in 1964-68 -- the period of George W.'s undergrad years? That could explain a lot…
