SAN JOSE & SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Flextronics Photonics, a business unit of Flextronics, and Peregrine Semiconductor today announced a joint marketing, manufacturing and development agreement for Peregrine's FOCUTSpak platform - a packaged component for use in parallel optical modules. In addition to the joint development and marketing of the FOCUTSpak Optical Engine platform, Flextronics will manufacture FOCUTSpak based optical modules for their module and system customers, and will help Peregrine build and test its FOCUTSpak Optical Engine products. The first product to be jointly developed and marketed as a technology demonstration vehicle will be the Quad 10Gbps Transceiver. This module incorporates Peregrine's first FOCUTSpak based product, the PE7200 4-channel 10Gbps transceiver Optical Engine. Future products will include 12-channel transmit/receive pairs in addition to various channel densities and features being requested by system OEMs, but not currently found in the marketplace. "This partnership allows us to significantly contribute to the development of Peregrine's Optical Engine platform through our manufacturing expertise, technology, processes and skill sets," stated Ron Keith Vice President and General Manager of Flextronics Photonics. "Peregrine's ability to offer integrated photodetectors (IPD) for each VCSEL channel and an environmental seal for the sensitive GaAs based VCSEL and PIN diode arrays substantially increases the reliability of parallel modules - issues which are a major concern for OEMs designing parallel modules into their products."
