FiOS Follies

2:45 PM -- I've been flummoxed by FiOS.

Last week I ordered FiOS from Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ), which told me it was available at my location and was supposed to be installed today. They set up the date and said I should be expecting a confirmation phone call... which never came. I guess I should have taken that cue.

No Verizon trucks this morning. I checked my online account, and it said "order cancelled." There was no explanation. I got on the phone but was put on hold for 30 minutes and never got through to anybody.

My suspicion is they came by some time this week to check the access -- which they said they were going to do -- and discovered it would not work, despite the fact that the computer said it would, so they cancelled the installation. Maybe the fiber wasn't close enough.

I'll update you when I get further information. I was looking forward to my FiOS installation photo essay.

re: FiOS Follies
We checked your order. You ordered on 8/15 and are scheduled for install on 8/21 not 8/17. We make calls 2 and 1 day ahead to confirm installation. Did you receive one today for tommorow's installation? Your order has NOT been cancelled.

Since VZ doesn't have a good scheduling system, it probaly got updated for changes, that is a canceled and re-entered with an automated new date. Wait till they remove the copper wire to your phone and then have problems installing your new FIOS with phone. You'll learn more about the scheduling system if you can contact them.

Keep the cell phone batteries charged!
Good Luck!

Use another carrier for local and long distance phone. This way, they are forced to leave the copper in place. I use IDT and have been very happy with them: $45/month for unlimited local and long distance.

I am on the West Coast but my wife reports that Verizon showed up Tuesday and installed the FiOS and that everything appears to be working.

The bad news: Because they came on Tuesday, and not Friday, that means I was not there to take pictures!

Did you subscribe to the full bundle? Did VZ disconnect your existing copper line?

sorry for the late response.. for some reason I just saw this.

I got the full bundle, yes. Cut Comcast out of the loop. Disconnected the copper. Bold, eh?
