Device makers, wireless audio, fleet management and all kinds of mobile apps help to drive up the sector's funding in June

Mobile Funding Hits $1B in June

The mobile sector took in $1 billion in new funding this June, according to the latest report from Rutberg & Co. , with venture capital cash flowing to device makers, consumer application developers, enterprise plays and more.

In total this June, 83 private companies announced a combined $1 billion in new financing, Rutberg says in a new research report released Wednesday. By way of comparison, the mobile sector took in a total of $825.1 million in May, and April saw $591.9 million in new money.

Why this matters
June saw a diverse mix of mobile companies get funding. As well as the five highlighted, mobile advertising, payment and video companies were well-represented in the Rutberg rundown. After the early deflated reactions to the Facebook IPO, there had been worries that the air was leaking out of the mobile bubble but -- for now -- the sector is still hot with VC firms.
