Performance results for Amdocs Convergent Charging announced
July 12, 2013
ST. LOUIS -- Amdocs, the leading provider of customer experience systems and services, today announced the performance results for the industry’s first virtualised, real-time charging. Tested in a production-like environment1, the solution demonstrated carrier-grade charging performance, with a five millisecond latency and sub-second failover (switching between servers) to ensure business continuity. The results show that service provider mission-critical, real-time charging processes, supporting millions of subscribers, can run in virtualised environments.
Conducted at Amdocs’ labs, the benchmark ran Amdocs Convergent Charging using VMware vSphere2, VMware’s market-leading virtualisation solution. Amdocs and VMware worked together to develop the testing methodology and to deliver carrier-grade, virtualised real-time charging.
“The industry is evolving towards network function virtualisation as a way to help service providers decouple software workloads from hardware to considerably improve cost-efficiencies and business agility,” said Rebecca Prudhomme, vice president of product and solutions marketing at Amdocs. “To ensure our customers can benefit from the latest advancements in this area, we certified our CES 9 product portfolio on VMware vSphere and introduced the industry’s first, virtualised network control, and now, real-time charging systems.”
“We are proud to be involved in cutting-edge, communications industry advancements in carrier-grade virtualisation and cloud-computing with key players like Amdocs,” said Parag Patel, vice president, Global Strategic Alliances, VMware. “Virtualised BSS capabilities that can scale up and down ‘on-demand’ can help service providers dramatically reduce hardware requirements.”With the addition of virtualisation to Amdocs Convergent Charging, Amdocs is offering the most advanced event-processing, real-time charging system in the market.
Amdocs Convergent Charging uses Amdocs’ innovative, real-time charging technology – Amdocs Turbo Charging, which enables best-in-class charging performance on Linux-based software – and provides dynamic allocation of resources using an elastic, highly available cloud topology.
