SAN DIEGO -- Sorrento Networks (Nasdaq:FIBR), a leading supplier of intelligent optical networking solutions for metro and regional applications, today announced a contract with FiberNet Communications, L.C., an Iowa-based consortium of independent telecommunications companies.FiberNet is deploying a high capacity, interstate optical network in Iowa and South Dakota to carry both traditional and emerging IP services."Because of rapidly changing requirements, we needed a system that would allow growth while supporting a variety of services that may be needed in the future. We selected Sorrento Networks because its GigaMux platform provides the affordability, scalability and flexibility to meet the current and future needs of our customers," said Doug Boone, CEO of Mutual Telephone, one of the companies included in the FiberNet consortium. Wade Ziegeldorf, engineering staff member for Martin Group, who led the technical evaluation, selection, and installation for FiberNet, agreed with Boone and stated, "We see tremendous flexibility in the variety of services FiberNet can offer from Sorrento's optical platform, including the scalability to expand to 64 channels per fiber pair."Sorrento Networks' GigaMux is a metro and regional dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) platform that expands the capacity of new or existing fiber networks up to 64 times, transforming any fiber plant into a high-performance, multi-protocol transmission network. GigaMux is a compact, flexible and cost-effective system based on a "pay-as-you-grow" architecture. Working in conjunction with GigaMux is the EPC product family, consisting of sub-rate aggregation multiplexers that increase bandwidth utilization by combining a wide variety of traffic for transmission over a single wavelength.Sorrento Networks Corp.Fibernet Group plc
