MILAN -- Italtel, leading company in voice/data/video integration for the development of next generation TLC networks, has won the contract with FASTWEB – the major alternative Italian operator for Broadband telecommunications services – for development of the control and management project for its own network infrastructure. The ‘Service Assurance’ system to be provided by Italtel will enable FASTWEB to manage network growth following the substantial expansion of xDSL domain users and increases in traffic volumes.

The project stems from FASTWEB’s requirement to consolidate current platforms that manage and control the performance of the network and of services offered to residential and business users. The system proposed by Italtel guarantees the transition from a territorial or domain-based system to a centralised, functional and service-based system, with the primary objective of facilitating the identification of infrastructure problems.

The solution proposed by Italtel was developed by taking advantage of the expertise attained by ONE-ANS – company of the Italtel group and leader in system integration – throughout the years, directly with its client FASTWEB. The system is based on customised market and software platforms able to integrate completely with the various components of the solution. The strengths of the ‘Service Assurance’ system developed by Italtel are summarised as follows:

  • Complete integration of the various technological domains, IP and xDSL, and the relative applications of other Providers

  • Integrated management of performance data acquired via multiple IT interfaces, automatically and in real time

  • Improvement in the alarm identification capacity – Fault Monitoring

  • Implementation of a troubleshooting activity aimed at identifying the causes of the malfunction
